Abstract

Over the years there has been an increase in the demand and supply of domestic workers worldwide. As a highly informal job, women are mostly engaged, which necessitates more engagement in this area. This paper analyses the demand, wage and societal outlook towards domestic work. The data was collected from a micro-level unit. Multiple regression, mean analysis and descriptive analysis were done to draw results. From the result, it is clear that the monthly household expenditure of those who are hiring domestic workers is positively related to the salary of domestic workers. Whereas the expenditure level crosses a higher limit the relationship moves negatively. The mean salary of domestic workers is higher than the wage mentioned in the Kerala Minimum Wage Act 2016-18. The monthly expenditure of the family, number of working women and man are the statistically significant determinants which determine salary of domestic workers.

Abstract

“Be enlightened through education, be strengthened through organization, and make progress through industry” (Sree Narayana Guru: 1910)

During the 19th century, the Ezhava population in Travancore was relegated to the lowest rung of the caste hierarchy which hindered their social, educational and economic mobility. However, the Sree Narayana reform movement brought about a significant paradigm shift, empowering the Ezhava community to break free from their socio-economic shackles. By promoting education and entrepreneurship, the movement enabled Ezhavas to access better livelihoods, fulfil their basic needs, and ultimately, improve their overall wellbeing. This paper examines the role of the Sree Narayana reform movement in transforming the Ezhava community from a disadvantaged group to a thriving, educated, and entrepreneurial class, thereby redressing the social and economic disparities of the time.

A THEMATIC STUDY OF ERNEST HEMINGWAY’S

Abstract

The Old Man and the Sea by Ernest Hemingway explores how man fits into a violent and destructive universe. Hemingway seems to be implying in this narrative that, at least in the natural order, man might discover his own beauty and dignity by discovering the mystery of human power that lies at the core of so much that seems harsh and violent. This paper addresses the subject of courage; yet, the novelist appears to have placed a great deal of faith in conceptions or ideals, and courage devalues in the story. Hemingway appears to have just given up on society’s illness and every sociological, philosophical, and spiritual attempt to heal it. In the universe of The Old Man and the Sea, both humans and animals must act bravely in order to survive. Without courage, there can be no love, kindness, charity, or justice in this harsh world. Hemingway exhibits a kind of dignity in the exercise of the body of both man and fish that is only possible when two beings become brothers via an endurance test that tests every ounce of power and ability they possess.
