MODUS OPERANDI OF SEXUAL VIOLENCE AGAINST CHILDREN IN ARUNACHAL PRADESH

Abstract

The present paper examined the modus operandi adopted by the perpetrators and the relationship between the perpetrators and victim of sexual violence in Arunachal Pradesh. To draw the result, the authors analyzed the cases of sexual violence against children reported in English daily – The Arunachal Times from January 2020 to October 20, 2021 supplemented by personal interview of acquaintances of the victims for two cases. The result of the study revealed that abduction, abduction and physical assault, abduction and confinement, physical assault and threats, promise to take the responsibility of education of the victim’s, showing concern to the victim and the family, and allurement of victim by creating an impression to provide the luxuries of life were the most common modus operandi adopted by the perpetrators for sexual violence against children; relatives, stepfather, employer, person known to either victim’s parents or victims, stranger, neighbor, and guardian were the perpetrators of sexual violence.
